Why you should be using Collagen daily

Most of you have heard over the past year or two about using Collagen in your supplement regimen. It has become a very high demand supplement due to its many benefits. I wanted to go over some of the different types of collagen and the benefits of each, as it can be quite confusing. You see; all collagen is not created equally depending on where it's sourced from and the types of Collagen used to create the formula. In fact, there are over 16 types of Collagen found in the human body  with all different structures and functions. Over 80-90% of these forms of Collagen belong to the type 1,2 & 3 forms. With that being said, if you're shopping around and you see a Collagen product with over 3 types of Collagen in their formula; it’s most likely not a good option. Although it may seem appealing, or appear to be a better value; that’s typically not the case, and it’s likely a more watered down version. It is common however, to have 1 to 2 types of Collagen per formula as each type generally provides different benefits. The most popular types of Collagen you’re going to come across are type 1, type 2, and type 3 as stated above. In this article we are going to go over each of these forms and some of the benefits associated with each.

Type 1

-Minimizes fine lines and wrinkles and improves skin elasticity. This is commonly used in some high end beauty lotions and facial creams.

-Supports muscle growth

-Supports eye health

-Supports healthy bones

-Supports disc and spinal health

-Supports hair and nail growth and strength

Type 2

-Is a component of cartilage and helps rebuild and strengthen it

-Supports Joint health

-Supports Disc and spinal health

-Supports eye health

Type 3

-Is found in the intestines, muscles,  and blood vessels. -Is the most abundant protein in the body making up 30% of the body’s protein molecules.

-Supports gut health and digestion

-Improves skin elasticity and hydration

-Is a fundamental part of healthy congestive tissue; meaning it helps hold things in place in the body such as bones, tendons and ligaments.

All of the above forms of Collagen help to keep the body in a parasympathetic state. This  means it helps to calm the body down slightly by reducing breathing rate, lowering blood pressure and promoting a healthy digestive state in the gut. In turn, this all helps to lower Cortisol levels. Cortisol is our stress hormone that is produced when we put stress on the body.  Increased Cortisol can be caused by working out, not getting enough sleep and/or abusing stimulants continuously causing adrenal fatigue. We recommend using a scoop or more of Collagen along with your Amino Acids and high molecular weight carbohydrate formula for the ultimate intro workout formula.

I have been using Collagen for about three years and I noticed within the first three weeks less joint pain in my knees, elbows and shoulders. There are many ways to use Collagen in your daily routine. I currently add one scoop per day to my morning coffee and another scoop intro work out for the above described benefits. Most people with continuous use notice a healthier skin appearance and glow along with improved skin elasticity leading to a more youthful appearance.

Here at All Pro Nutrition, we carry a few brands of Collagen and we mainly stock Marine Collagen. Marine Collagen is Kosher and some studies suggest it has a higher Bio-availability of absorption compared to Bovine Collagen.

We currently stock Pes Collagen, Astroflav Collagen which comes in many different flavors and another brand which is made here in Raleigh NC at the Ajinomoto Pharmaceutical plant called Indigo Marine Collagen. You can shop for these brands below.
